Day 1 – Welcome to the United States

Our vacation started a little later than planned due to the Lufthansa strike. However, we were among the lucky ones that could rebook the flight tickets to another flight leaving on the same day. Frankfurt airport was so empty that you could feel lonely over there. This is a very rare phenomenon. All the ground staff member had so much of time that we were even asked if we want to board the airport car which is usually been taken by the old and disabled people. We accepted and were driven to our gate.

The flight itself was unexpectedly comfortable on board of United Airlines flight 901. The airplane itself was a little old. The crew made it very pleasant to be on board of this flight. We got a lot of food and drinks. Even Ice Cream was offered as an afternoon snack. Additionally, we had a very impressive view of Greenland and the Rocky Mountains.

After we reached in San Francisco we cleared the immigration (only 45 minutes!) and went to the rental car center where we picked up our car. You cannot really consider this vehicle as a car, it is a truck! After a 30 minutes drive to our hotel we checked in and our car was being parked to the valet parking by the hotel's staff. Welcome to the USA.
