Travelling with CaRe: Day 12 – Monument Valley to Page at Lake Powell

In Monument Valley we woke up with the most beautiful sunrise which we have ever seen in our life. Here, you can see such beautiful colours like nowhere else. As our rooms were facing towards the east and the Monument Valley directly we could even enjoy this sunrise from our beds.

After the breakfast we went into the valley by car. There is a 17 mile scenic drive which is different from the scenic drives we have done so far. Here in Monument Valley this drive is on an unpaved road on red sand. This offroad kind of track was very interesting to drive and we saw a lot of the so called „mesas“ (red rocks) where we could even identify some sculptures.

On our way to Page at Lake Powell we took a slight deviation along the Navajo National Monument which features a short trail. This is called the Sandal Trail and it takes you to an outlook point from wher you can see the Betatakin ruins. These ruins are old stone houses built into the cliffs of the mountains. It is a beautiful spot of history hidden in the nature.

In the evening we reached Page at Lake Powell. This lake was created by the Glen Canyon Dam that is one of the biggest dams in the US. Page itself is just a small village which 4500 inhabitants. However, it has 18 hotels and a lot of restaurants. We took the chance to refill some gas, food and water in order to prepare for Death Valley on the next day.
